Abstract

106,290. Conklin, B. March 17, 1916. Fixed - abutment type; packing vanes; valves, distributing and cut-off.-Relates to rotary engines &c. of the kind described in Specification 13743/14 having rotary vanes 8, 8<1>, 8<2> carried by a drum 1 so as to engage abutments 10, 10<1>, 10<2>, 10<3> carried by a casing 5, and consists in duplicating the inlet ducts 11, 12, 13, 14 at opposite ends of the drum 1 and casing 5 and in providing continuously open exhaust ports 18 communicating by ducts 19, 20, 21 with the outlet 22. The casing ports 12, 14, which register periodically with the drum parts 11, 13, lead the working-fluid to the working-chambers by ducts 15 and ports 16. The drum recesses in which the vanes rotate are fitted with packing strips running in grooves diagonally from lip to lip. The vanes are given curved faces, Fig. 6, having radii 23 equal to the radius 24 of the casing 5, and the radius 25 of the recess in the vane is made equal to one half the distance 26 between the drum and casing. The device may be used as a compressor or exhauster by rotating the casing 5 in a counter-clockwise direction.
