Abstract

Fixed-abutment type; discharge and suction passages; packing drums and vanes.-In a rotary pump having outwardly-sliding vanes F bearing on loose rings L, L<1> located within lateral recesses in the drum E, crescent-shaped inlet ports R<1>, R<2> and outlet ports S<1>, S<2> are formed in the end covers of the casing, and lead by passages R<3>, R<4> and S<3>, S<4> to the suction and discharge conduits R, S. The functions of these conduits are interchanged on reversing. The bearings T, U are cast integrally with the end covers. The sides of the drum are packed by rubber segments 0 backed by metal pieces 0', which are pressed out by plugs acted on by fluid pressure admitted through ducts P in the drum periphery. They may also be pressed by springs. These segments O, moving endways in their grooves, press packing-strips Q, Fig. 4, against the faces of the sliding vanes. Each vane comprises three plates G, G<1>, G<2>, Figs. 7 and 8; the plate G<1> carries L-shaped packing- strips H, H<1>, and the plates G, G<2> are each divided diagonally into two members G<3>, G<4>, the diagonals crossing, as shown in Fig. 7.
