111,635. O'Connor, T. May 18, 1917. Movable - abutment type; discharge and suction pipes and passages for pumps; packing drums. - Rotary pumps of the type having spiral passage ways in the opposite end portions have rotary abutments 50 of less diameter than the drums 15, and are provided with recesses 62 of substantially the same width as the opening into the abutment chamber and the same curvature as the pump casing. The drum and casing are geared together to rotate at the same speed so that the peripheral surfaces in contact have different speeds. The piston blocks 43 are shaped so as to give a slight clearance between the forward ends thereof and the bottom of the recesses, and are formed with transverse water traps 45.
