Abstract

901,826. Axial-flow compressors. ROLLSROYCE Ltd. May 16, 1961 [May 31, 1960], No. 19167/60. Classes 110 (1) and 110 (3). A compressor casing is formed in two or more arcuate sections, abutting in a plane parallel with the rotor axis, and secured together by the outer ends of an axial row of stator blades adjacent an abutting surface, secured to the outer ends of a further row of stator blades, adjacent the abutting surface of the adjacent section. Stator blades 11 are secured to the compressor walls 17, 18 in slots, and the blades adjacent the abutting surfaces of the casing have head portions 11a contacting flanges 19 secured thereto by bolts. The roots of the blades 11 pass through slots in shroud rings 21, the shroud rings being secured by dowel pins 22. Each section of the compressor casing may be formed from a thick single sheet without axial flanges, the heads of the protruding blades being bolted directly together and the edges of the casing sections abutting (Fig. 5, not shown). The compressor casing, the blades 11 and shroud rings 21 may be made from a reinforced thermo-setting resinous material such as asbestos or glass fibres bonded together by phenolic or epoxy resins.
