Abstract

1320539 Turbomachine blades DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 8 Dec 1971 [10 Dec 1970] 58701/70 Heading F1T A blade, e.g. for the compressor of a gas turbine engine, comprises a hollow leading portion 11 and a laminated trailing portion 12 separated by an internal wall 16 about which the leading portion can pivot if hit by a foreign object. Leading portion 11 has a steel outer skin 13 and a more ductile inner skin 14, e.g. of aluminium, defining an internal cavity 15 and forming wall 16. Trailing portion 12 is made of epoxy resin laminations 17 reinforced with carbon fibres and secured together by members 18. The latter are formed by rectangular or circular plugs of resin material which may be reinforced by longitudinally or sinuously extending fibres. The junction 20 between outer skin 13 and outermost laminations 17 is flush and of sinuous shape Fig. 2 (not shown) so as not to coincide with the straight rows in which members 18 are arranged. The blade may be for a rotor or stator.
