May 18, 1950. [May 19, 1949] No. 12400/50. Class 146 (iii). A. push-feed pencil in which the lead is fed successively by intermittent casual pressure exerted on an operating knob, comprises a partly or wholly transparent outer casing 3, a lead-feeding mechanism 1, a transparent slidable lead-storage container 4 contained within the casing 3 by a plug or cap 11, the lower end of the container abutting against a lead-feed tube 6 and acting as a ram for the lead-feeding mechanism, while the rearward end of the container is permanently closed and projects beyond the plug 11 to form the operating knob 7. The container 4 is formed as a replaceable unit, such that by removal of the plug 11 from the casing, the container may be readily inserted. The casing may be formed of two readily connectible parts, e.g., by being threaded together.
