Abstract

568,500. Anµsthetic apparatus. REITZ, H. Nov. 23, 1942, No. 16552. Convention date, Jan. 2. [Class 81 (ii)] Anµsthetic apparatus comprises a tubular body 6, with a passage 7 through which an ether-oxygen mixture &c. is supplied to the face mask 10, the body 6 being furnished with a screw cap 25 &c. by which it is secured to the mouth of a stand and bottle 2 containing liquid ether &c. Oxygen &c. in a bottle &c. 30 is supplied through connections 31, 32, 33 to a dip tube 27, which may be raised or lowered through a sleeve 23, so that apertures 37, 38 in the dip tube may deliver oxygen &c. through the space above the ether in the bottle 2 or through the liquid ether, Fig. 6. The etheroxygen mixture escapes from the bottle through a space 35 in the sleeve 23 and thence by an aperture 36 to the passage 7 leading, through hose 9, to the mask 10. In the raised position of the tube 27, the head 39 bears against the lower end of the sleeve 23 to seal the same against ingress of oxygen into the bottle 2. A re-breather bag 13 may be fitted detachably to the tubular body 6 and an ampoule 16 may be fitted to supply ethyl chloride through an aperture 17 directed towards the mouth of the bag 13. A cock 19 may " shut off the bag 13 and ampoule 16 when not required to be used.
