635,867. Propelling-pencils..MURRAY, F. L. Jan. 19, 1948, No. 33645. [Class 146 (iii)] A propelling pencil comprises a tubular casing carrying a point section 3 provided with slits 5 at its front end and a spring ring 9 at its rear end, which ring frictionally engages the bore of a tubular casing 11 to prevent undesired relative movement between the casings 1 and 11. In operation, the writing end is pressed against a surface by applying pressure to the knob 15, thus causing an ejector rod 23 slidable in a tube 10 to press the lead against the surface. Further pressure compresses a spring 21 positioned between a member 20 carrying the rod 23 and the base of a spare lead receptacle 17. When the knob 15 is released the ejector rod under the action of the spring 21 projects the lead beyond the end of the point section 3.
