Abstract
1,002,806. Fountain pen ink cartridge. PARKER PEN CO. Nov. 9, 1961 [Nov. 17, 1960]. No. 40191/61. Heading B6P. An ink cartridge 10 for a fountain pen comprises an elongate tubular body 12 closed at one end 20 and a capillary passageway along the inner wall of the body extending from the closed end of the chamber to a location remote fro m the closed end. When the body is positioned with its closed end 20 uppermost, the downward forces exerted by the capillary passageway on the ink and the weight of ink remaining in the closed end exceed the meniscus forces tending to hold the ink in the closed end, whereby the ink is fed out of the closed end. The body 12 is supplied with a plug 13 having an integral wall 17 which retains the ink in the cartridge. On insertion into an associated fountain pen, the wall 17 is pierced or partially severed from the plug to permit the flow of ink to the writing point portion of the pen. The plug 13 is hermetically sealed to the body 12 as by cementing or welding. The capillary passageways take the form of two pairs of ribs 21, 22 and 23, 24, Fig. 2. The cartridge body is of linear polyethylene.
