Abstract
683,243. Hot gas engines. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. Sept. 5, 1950 [Sept. 8, 1949], No. 21848/50. Class 7 (i). A closed cycle hot gas reciprocating engine comprises a compressor which supplies gaseous medium under pressure to the working space of the engine the compressor also supplying gaseous medium to a duct for operating an injector which delivers combustion air for one or more burners of the engine. As shown a compressor 6 supplies compressed air to pipes 11a, 11b. The pipe 11b leads past a non-return valve 12 to the cold space of the engine. The pipe 11a leads to an injector 13 where fuel is drawn in and then to an injector 15 where secondary combustion air is added before the resulting mixture reaches the burner 10. A thermostatically controlled device may be employed to control the flow through the pipe 11a according to the temperature of the heater or hot space. The flow of air is reduced when the temperature increases. It is stated that the quantity of secondary air drawn in may be regulated. A reducing valve may be provided between the compressor 6 and the injector 13. Alternatively the compressor may be a double-stage compressor air from the low pressure stage flowing to the 'burner and another part being further compressed before supply to the conduit 11b. The secondary combustion air may be supplied by means of a fan. The latter may be a low pressure fan the air supplied by the compressor aiding in the injector the action of the fan. It is stated that the medium supplied may be either nitrogen or hydrogen.
