Abstract

533,893. Gas turbines; blowers. AKT.-GES BROWN, BOVERI & CIE. Dec. 12, 1939, No. 32050. Convention date, Dec. 27, 1938. [Class 110 (iii)] A constant pressure gas turbine installation provides heated compressed air for external uses, e.g. hot blast, and is regulated in response to the temperature and quantity of the air being delivered. In some cases pressure instead of quantity is the second controlling characteristic. A compressor 2 delivers air to a heatexchanger 6 and part of the air goes to a burner 8. The gases from the combustion chamber 4 are mixed with a second, part of the air passing along a line 9 and drive the turbine 1. A third part of the compressed air passes through a heat-exchanger 5 and is delivered to the hot-air user. A thermostat 11 controls a valve 10 which, when the temperature at 11 falls, opens to increase the air passing directly to the turbine. This causes the quantity of air passing through the heat-exchanger to fall, so securing an increase in temperature and, at the same time, the quantity meter 12 operates a valve 13 to increase the fuel gas supplied by the blower 3. In place of a throttling valve 10, an auxiliary turbine coupled to the turbine 1 may be used, the nozzles of the auxiliary turbine being controlled by the thermostat 11. In place of the throttle control 13, the blower 3 may be driven by a separate motor controlled by the quantity meter 12. In place of the valve 10, the air suppy in the line 9 may be controlled by selective tapping of the compressor 2. The controls of the devices 11 and 12 may be interchanged.
