Relates to a gas-turbine plant comprising an air preheater 12 disposed between the compressor 10 and the combustion chamber 15 of the plant wherein the turbine 16 is required to operate under part load conditions for the majority of its running time and wherein the air preheater is designed to cater, through either or both sides thereof, only for the reduced mass flow obtaining under the port load conditions. In such a plant, the valve controlled by-pass duct 20 or 22 of the air preheater is provided with flow-restriction means adapted, when the by-pass is open, to maintain a pressure drop across the air preheater at that required to give a useful heat exchange effect under excess flow conditions. The by-pass flow restriction means comprises a convergent nozzle outlet located in a venturi throat disposed in a duct for conveying the exhaust gas or air from the air preheater. The valves 21 controlling the by-pass ducts may constitute butterfly valves or simple pivotal shut-off valves automatically responsive to the load conditions of the turbine.
