Class 110(iii) In a gas turbine plant which includes a separate output turbine e, the gas supply to the output turbine is controlled by a change-over valve a so that gases either pass to the turbine or by-pass the turbine; an orifice f being disposed in the by-pass and the size of the orifice being such that the pressure drop across the orifice is equal to that across the turbine under the same conditions of mass flow and inlet temperature. In a second embodiment in which the gases are re-heated before passing to the output turbine, two orifices are provided in conjunction with two change-over valves, so that when the turbine is being by-passed, some gas passes through one orifice to a heat exchanger in which air is pre-heated before passing to the main combustion chamber, while the remainder of the gas passes through the second orifice direct to atmosphere. The quantity of gas passing through the heat exchanger is sufficient to provide the necessary, rise in the air temperature.
