766,471. Gas turbine plants. PARSONS & MARINE ENGINEERING TURBINE RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION. July 22, 1954, No. 21437/54. Class 110(3). In a gas turbine plant in which a separate power turbine is provided, exhaust gases from the compressor-turbine 4 pass to the power turbine e through a duct d containing a valve n, and a by-pass f is provided across the power turbine, the by-pass containing a valve o which is interconnected with the valve n in the duct d. A heat exchanger k downstream of the power turbine e and a by-pass 8 around the heat exchanger are also provided, the heat exchanger by-pass containing a fixed orifice j and a valve p. For all power turbine loads from zero to full power, the combined flow through the power turbine and the power turbine by-pass remains constant and so does the rate of heat transfer in the heat exchanger. The valve p in the heat exchanger by-pass 8 may be interconnected with the two interconnected valves n and o. Alternatively, the valve p in the heat exchanger bypass may be a two-position valve controlled independently of the two interconnected valves n and o, the valve p in this embodiment being shut at full power and fully open at all other powers.
