In a four-stroke internalcombustion engine having a cylinder with a diameter B not less than the stroke H, which cylinder is cast integrally with the cylinder head and crankcase block b, a, the valves c, d are so arranged side by side in the head b that they can be inserted into the valve guides through the cylinder. The relatively large overhead valves which are parallel to the longitudinal cylinder axes may be located within the cylinder periphery, the inlet valve c being larger than the exhaust valve d.
