Abstract

[Also in Group XII] A hopper for a moving-grate furnace stoker has at least part of its front wall formed as a sliding door, the lower edge of which, when the door is lowered, rests upon a moving member of the stoker, the door being capable of being raised to provide access to the firebed at about the level of the lower end of the hopper and the front of the hopper presenting an opening above the sliding door, when the latter is in the lowered position, by means of which opening the contents of the hopper may be observed and agitated. As shown in Fig. 1 the sliding door 12 is upwardly and forwardly inclined, is mounted in guides 13 and is provided with a flange 12a by which it may be raised manually. Alternatively, the door may be raised by means of a rope or chains and pulley actuated by a handwheel. When in a lowered position the door rests upon a reciprocating horizontal plate 21.
