Abstract
673,713. Liquid-fuel burners. MESCHINO, R. G. Dec. 15, 1949 [Dec. 30, 1948], No. '32182/49. Class 75(i) In a liquid fuel burner in which fuel under pressure is passed through ports leading non-radially to an open passageway connecting nozzle orifices at opposite ends thereof, the ports enter the passageway in a like torque-inducing direction so as to produce a swirling, annular body of fuel having an air core extending through the nozzle orifices. Liquid fuel supplied through a conduit 11 to an annular chamber 35 and by a duct 19 therefrom to an annular chamber 35<SP>1</SP> passes through ports 33, 33<SP>1</SP> leading tangentially from the chambers 35, 35<SP>1</SP> into a concentric passageway 36, 36<SP>1</SP> having nozzles 13, 14 at opposite ends to form a swirling body of liquid with an air core 39 extending through the nozzles 13, 14, thus ensuring stability by the absence of any drag at an end wall. The burner shown is a spill-type burner in which the swirl chambers 31, 31<SP>1</SP>, are of greater diameter 'than the passageway 36, 36<SP>1</SP> with the spill returned to the source through a pipe 12.. In a duplex type arrangement, Fig. 6 (not shown), fuel is supplied at constant pressure through one pipe 42 and, at a variable pressure, through a second pipe 43. The fuel issuing from nozzles 13, 14 may be apportioned by a suitable choice of their outlet orifice diameters.
