Abstract
673,572. Cartridge wads. SOC. FRANCAISE DE MUNITIONS DE CHASSE DE TIR & DE GUERRE. June 29, 1950. [June 30, 1949] No. 16295/50. Class 9 (i). A cartridge wad is constructed as a hollow, preferably cylindrical, member of such material and wall thickness that it is deformable under the pressure developed within the cartridge on firing, one or more holes 5 being provided in the side wall of the member through which the enclosed air can escape. Fig. 1 shows a cartridge case 1 containing a propellent charge 2 and shot 3 separated by the wad 4 of cardboard, light metal or a flexible plastic material or a combination of these materials. The wad may be coated with a lubricant. Elastic material such as glass fibre may be inserted in the wad. The wad 4 is a tube with inwardly bent ends bearing against discs 4a which may be glued to the tube. Fig. 2 shows a wad in which the closure 4b is integral with the tube while the closure 4c fits on to the tube like a cupshaped lid. Both end closures may be cupshaped and glued to the tubular wall.
