Abstract

1288550 Cartridges DOW CORNING CORP 31 Dec 1970 [17 April 1970] 62004/70 Heading F3A A cartridge comprises a combustible cartridge case 14 containing a propellant 31, and a coupling ring 21 for threadedly engaging a collar 17 and a projectile 25. A diaphragm 45 enables the cartridge to be stored safely without the projectile. The propellant 31 may be granular, moulded or contained in a sack. The cartridge case 14 is formed of moulded propellant bound with a nitrocellulose binder. The ring 17 and collar 21 are formed of steel or brass. To enable the collar to be inserted into the mouth of the cartridge case, the collar is made of flexible material, and, if desired, a slit is provided to make it even more flexible. Alternatively, diametral sides of the collar are truncated and the mouth of the cartridge case is provided with corresponding grooves so that the collar can be inserted edgeways. The cartridge and a method of assembling the cartridge is claimed.
