Abstract

979,332. Blank cartridges. RHEINMETALL G.m.b.H. Feb. 20, 1961 [Feb. 22, 1960], No. 6213/61. Heading F3A. A blank cartridge comprises a case 1 wherein two discs 6, 8 of cork, plastics or of bonded sawdust or cork granules are frictionally held in engagement with the case and the discs are separated by a space 7 containing a compressible medium. The disc 6 is adjacent a cardboard cap 5, the latter being pressed on to the top of a propellent charge 4 which may be of " smokeless " nitrocellulose powder and the disc 8 is surmounted by a cardboard cap 9 which is sealed to the case by, for example, synthetic shellac. Space 7 may be filled with air or other gas at or above atmospheric pressure or by a material such as foam plastic. Offset bores 10 in the caps 5, 9 and discs 6, 8 allow escape of air when these components are placed in case 1 and screw-threading 11 aids the frictional engagement of disc 6 and cap 5.
