Abstract

745,160. Blasting cartridges. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Jan. 18, 1954 [April 30, 1953], No. 11941/53. Classes 9(1) and 9(2) Fluid-pressure blasting cartridge is provided with a gas-generating charge comprising 55.0 per cent to 75.0 per cent by weight of ammonium nitrate and 45.0 per cent to 25.0 per cent by weight of calcium formate. The charge may include up to 0.5 per cent by weight of calcium stearate. The composition may be enclosed in a container of sheet metal or synthetic plastics such as polyethylene polymers, or synthetic resins such as polychloracrylates or fireproofed cardboard. The heating element for the composition may be enclosed in the container. The Figure shows a casing 1 separated by a rupturable disc 2 from a venting head 4. The blasting charge 5 is enclosed in a glazed paper tube 6 and consists of 65.0 per cent ammonium nitrate containing 0.05 per cent acid magenta, 34.9 per cent calcium formate and 0.1 per cent calcium stearate. The heating device 7 contains a heating composition disclosed in Specifications 724.060 and 731.096.
