Abstract

1,156,367. Cartridges. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. 28 Dec., 1966 [28 Dec., 1965], No.58027/66. Heading F3A. Artillery cartridge 1 wherein an anti-flash substance and/or barrel-protecting substance 7 is provided between the propellant charge 3 and a booster charge 5. The charges 5 and 7 are contained in a primer means 8. The charge 7 may be in the form of a compressed powder disc and if both types of substance are used these can be arranged one behind the other and separated by foil. Paper or plastics foil 6 separates the charges 5 and 7. On igniting the booster charge with electric ignition means (not shown) or a percussion cap 4 containing tricinate, lead azide or tetrazene, the booster charge drives the charge 7 into the propellant. A nozzle 9 aids the fine distribution of charge 7. In modifications (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown), an igniting charge, booster charge and the charge 7 are contained in a recess (16) in the base of the cartridge case, and the recess communicates with the propellant charge through ducts (17) or a conical portion (18). The anti-flash substance may be potassium sulphate, oxalate or nitrate. The barrel protecting substance may be aluminium fluoride, aluminium fluoride hydrate, chromium fluoride, vanadium pentoxide, zirconium oxychloride, niobium oxide, borax, potassium titanium fluoride, sodium molybdenum oxide, sodium tungstate, chromium nitrate, molybdenum oxide, tantalum oxide or mixtures thereof.
