Abstract
812,806. Engine-starter cartridges. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 27, 1957 [Feb. 22, 1957], No. 6129/57. Class 9(1) In a cartridge case 3 having an end closure as describeol in Specification 811,245 the bag 17 containing an ignition composition is replaced by an apertured member 1 fitted in the base of the case and surrounding- the primer 5. A diaphragm 8 is stuck to The member 1 above the primer and supports the ignition composition 7, which is covered by a diaphragm 9. Upstanding projections 10 support the charge 12. The member 1 may be of metal, wood or plastic resin compositions, but polyethylene is preferred. The diaphragms are made from natural or synthetic textile material that is substantially consumed on combustion and when the member 1 is made of thermoplastic resin the diaphragms may be secured in position by the application of heat and pressure. Thin films of waterproofing material such as polythene may be applied to the diaphragms 8, 9.
