Abstract

1,197,681. Shotgun cartridge wads. V. DE GREGORIO. 23 Feb., 1968 [27 Feb., 1967], No. 8958/68. Heading F3A. A wad, e.g., of plastics material, for a shotgun cartridge, comprises a cylindrical member 10 accommodating a chalice-shaped member 1 whose rim is engaged in a recess 5 formed in a closed end of the cylindrical member. The cylindrical member may be prolonged with wings 6 that are already cut or defined by tearing lines. The base 2 of the member 1 is slidable within the member 10 and is slightly convex. In use the wad rests on a powder container 11 in the cartridge case and supports shots 3. On firing the cartridge the wall 4 of the member 1 expands owing to the reaction of the shot and effects a recoil force absorption in a mechanical and pneumatic way.
