Abstract

1382888 Launching tube; cartridges MESSERSCHMITT - BOLKOW - BLOHM GmbH 7 Aug 1972 [14 Aug 1971] 36807/72 Headings F3C and F3A A device for launching missiles without recoil or detonator report comprises a tube 1 which is open at both ends and is provided with stops 4, 5, the stop 4 being integral with the mouth 2 of the tube and the stop 5 being formed on a sealing cap 6 having a screw-thread 7. The tube 1 houses a cartridge casing 8 of resilient material, the casing 8 tapering and being positioned in the tube 1 so that the taper increases from the rear end 3 of the tube 1 to the mouth 2. The cartridge casing 8 is hermetically sealed by diaphragms 10 and 11 and contains a first braking ring 12, a missile 13, a first cartridge case base 14, a propulsive charge 15, a second cartridge case base 16, a decomposable inert mass 17 and a second braking ring 18. When the charge 15 is detonated, the missile 13 moves in one direction and the inert mass 17 moves in the other direction to prevent recoil. The cartridge cases bases 14, 16 are stopped by the respective braking ring 12 or 18 abutting the respective stop 4 or 5 and a detonator report is thereby prevented.
