Abstract

The wad fits in a hunting gun carriage between the charge and the shot, being round and of flexible and impermeable material. It has two parts fitting together so as to form an internal gas-filled chamber between cup portions. The wad has an annular external recess round the chamber, with cylindrical portions (1, 2) on each side of it, and forming with the cartridge case an annular sealed gas-filled chamber. The recess can be formed by two tapering external wad surfaces sloping in opposite directions, or by a set of surfaces constituting a U-Shape, with the base parallel to the wad centre line.
