Abstract

922,291. Ammunition cartridges. R. H. P. DEVAUX. Feb. 18, 1960 [Feb. 24, 1959; Oct. 16, 1959], No. 5728/60. Class 9 (1). Ammunition for sporting guns comprises a cartridge case 7 holding a shot charge subdivided into partial charges each within its own container 1, each successive partial charge being lighter than the preceding charge as the head of the cartridge is approached and each container 1 being provided with means 5 to produce rotation, adjoining containers being arranged for opposite hand rotation. Between the ribs 5, which are helically arranged, are rows of perforations to facilitate rupture of the container for release of the shot 2. The container is preferably of flexible, elastic material, the ribs 5 and inwardly projecting radial vanes 4 being integral therewith. Each container may have a passage 28 through the base and be closed by a disc 3 or may be an open cup 13, Fig. 5, with an integral winged axial peg 19. In another modification, Fig. 7, the containers are joined together while in the cartridge and are separated after firing by the fracture of the casing 29 along lines of weakness 30. In this form the graduated weight of the partial charges is produced by graduating the height of the individual compartments instead of, as in Fig. 5, graduating the size of the shot. The casing 29 is attached to an overpowder wad 34.
