Abstract

907,878. Hollow charge projectiles. RHEINMETALL G.m.b.H. Feb. 9, 1959 [Feb. 10, 1958], No. 4527/59. Drawings to Specification. Class 9 (1). A spin-stabilized shell, having a shaped charge, is given a spin opposed to that of the shell casing to prevent reduction of the power of penetration. In some embodiments, the cone-shaped space in the front surface of the charge is lined with material having raised portions arranged to engage the explosive gases so as to oppose the spin of the shell about the longitudinal axis. In a further embodiment, an explosive capsule, having a different rate of detonation from that of the main explosive and having inclined burning surfaces, is inserted inside the main explosive to provide a circumferential impulse.
