Abstract
668,546. Endless-belt conveyers. ZAPP, P. E., BORGGRAFE, A., and EICKHOFF, A., (trading as EICKHOFF, GEB.). Jan. 30, 1950. [Feb. 5, 1949] No.3240/49. Class 78 (i). The driving head of a belt conveyer includes a detachable unit or units consisting of a driving motor and gearing and a support for one or more belt driving drums, and is characterized in that each drum driving shaft of the gearing is adapted directly to engage the hub of a belt driving drum. A housing 3 for the gearing is detachably secured to a bed plate 1 and the output shafts 10 and 11 are driven oppositely at equal speeds. A plate 2 also secured detachably to the bed plate 1 is provided with two holes 22 into which are bolted circular plates 21 housing bearings 20 for one end of a pair of drums 4, 5. The other ends of the drums are directly coupled to the shafts 10, 11 by means of splines on the shafts and in the hubs 14 of the drums, so that each drum with its gearing is supported by three bearings only. The hubs 14 are detachably secured to the bodies of the drums as are also the hubs 16, 17 at the ends adjacent the plate 2. The holes 22 in plate 2 are of larger diameter than the drums so that a drum may be removed by unbolting the plate 21. A sealing washer 24 in a recess in each of the hubs 14 prevents dirt from entering the internal splines. When the housing 3 is removed, the adjacent ends of the drums may rest in cradles, e.g. in a plate 25, the bearings 20 being self-aligning for this purpose.
