Abstract

887,715. Driving apparatus for endless conveyers. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. May 9, 1958 [May 14, 1957], No. 15287/57. Class 78 (1). A belt or other endless conveyer is driven by a single driving roller at one end which is driven through a gear-box suspended on the driving roller and restrained against pivotal movement around the roller, a motor being secured to the gear-box and driving its input shaft, the motor and gear-box being disposed between the upper and lower runs of the belt or other endless conveying element which engages the roller. As shown, a conveyer belt 28 passes around a roller 12 composed of two parts arranged on opposite sides of the final drive gear-wheel 23 of a gear-box 13. The roller parts are secured together through the gearwheel 23 by bolts 24 and dowels 25. The casing of the gear-box is suspended on the roller by the engagement of split bearing rings 14 with shoulders on the gear-wheel 23, the casing including a detachable end cap 131 to enable the various parts to be dismantled. A bracket 15 on the easing is secured to a cross-bar 16 of the conveyer frame to restrain the gear-box from pivotal movement about the roller 12. A motor is bolted to the input end of the gearbox and drives the gear-wheel 23 through gearwheels 19-22. The roller 12 has a covering 27 of rubber.
