Abstract

1318842 Passenger conveyers OTIS ELEVATOR CO 9 Feb 1972 [3 March 1971] 6116/72 Heading B8A A passenger conveyer has an endless belt 19, and a hand rail 24 driven by a series of roller units 22 disposed at spaced positions along the belt. Each unit 22 comprises a drive roller 33 rigidly connected with a support roller 21 of the conveyer belt 19. A shaft 30 carrying the rollers 21 and 33 is resiliently urged downwardly so that the roller 33 bears on the hand rail 24, reaction being provided by an idler roller 53. Similarly the roller 21 bears the belt 19 against an idler 53. The resilient force on the shaft 30 is caused by bolts 42 and springs 41 of a bearing 35. The sides of the escalator may be transparent. The rollers 21 and 33 may be covered with elastomer or polyurethane. The idler roller 53 may be covered with polytetrafluorethylene.
