Abstract

667,421. Compressors. DE VILBISS CO. Oct. 25, 1949, No. 27421/49. Class 8 (i) A single- or two-stage air compressor comprises a pair of cylinders 4, 5 with their axes forming a V, a flywheel 15 with vanes directing cooling air between the cylinders, a finned air intake manifold 17 and a compressed air manifold 35 both extending between and connected to both the cylinders and both lying in the path of the cooling air from the flywheel. The manifold 17 carries a central intake 27 fitted with an air silencer and filter and is connected to the inlets of the cylinders 4, 5 by extensions 23, 19. The manifold 35 is S-shaped and is connected to the cylinder outlets by elbows 33, 34, and is mounted below the manifold 17. The faces of the flange connections from the extensions 23, 19 and elbows 33, 34 are parallel to the axes of the respective cylinders and lie alongside each other. For single stage operation air is discharged from a connection 37 in the manifold 35. For two stage operation the extension 23 is blocked and the inlet and outlet valves of cylinder 4 are reversed. Air is discharged from a connection on cylinder 4, blocked during single stage operation.
