Abstract

1448604 Suction inlet tube SUNDSTRAND CORP 6 March 1974 [12 March 1973] 10031/74 Heading F2P [Also in Division F1] A suction inlet tube assembly in a gas compressor comprises an inner suction inlet tube 58 extending from a compressor intake 52 to a muffler 56 and a by-pass tube 62 surrounding the inner suction inlet tube 58 and having apertures 66, 67 through which gas can be sucked into the compressor intake 52 without passing through the muffler 56. The apertures 66, 67 also emit sound waves into housing 12 out of phase with waves from muffler 56 to effect high frequency cancellation. The compressor 16 comprises cylinders 33, 34 into which gas for compression is drawn via inlet passages (40) Fig. 3 (not shown) by pistons 30, 31 actuated by an electric motor driven crankshaft 22. The passages 40 are opened and closed by an annular reed valve 45. Outlet ports 42, 43 are controlled by outlet valving (not shown) on the opposite side of outlet plate 38 from the valve 45.
