Abstract

1,047,971. Compressors. CARRIER CORPORATION. Jan. 8, 1964 [March 8, 1963], No. 930/64. Heading F1N. A hermetically sealed motor driven compressor comprises a motor compartment 9 separated from a crankcase 10 by a partition 4 having a passage 62 containing a check valve 63 arranged to allow lubricant to pass from the motor compartment 9 to the crankcase 10 when the pressure in the crankcase is less than in the motor compartment, and means adapted to reduce the pressure in the crankcase. The pressure in the crankcase is reduced by virtue of its communication through passages 65, 60, 64 in a crankcase 20 with a low pressure region adjacent the downstream side of a restrictor ring 66 located at the junction between passages 54, 55 in a motor rotor 46 through which suction gas from a filtered opening 49 passes to a suction manifold 30. A portion of the suction gas passes through the space between the rotor 46 and a stator 45 to thereby further cool the motor.
