In a hermetrically sealed motor-compressor, Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), the motor 22 and the compressor 23 are mounted on the upper and lower sides, respectively, of a frame 27 resiliently supported in a casing 21 on three springs 80 disposed on a circle having a diameter less than the outside diameter of the motor 22, and the compressor 23 comprises a horizontally disposed cylinder 44 provided with intake and exhaust muffler chambers on either side thereof. The cylinder 44 and the muffler chambers are formed in a single housing 43 having a plane upper surface 45 secured in abutting relationship against the underside of the frame 27 by bolts 46, 47. Gas to be compressed is admitted to the casing 21 and flows through a pipe 65 and a cap 64 into the intake muffler. After compression in the cylinder 44 by a piston 48 reciprocated by a crankshaft 29 the gas enters the exhaust muffler and flows therefrom through a cap 67, a pipe 68, a second muffler 69 to an outlet pipe 70. The crankcase 29 is provided with a pipe 101 which dips into an oil reservoir 100. Oil entering the pipe 101 flows through passages 104, 105 to lubricate the crankshaft bearings and collects in an annular trough 111 beneath the motor to drip therefrom through a hole in the frame 27 to lubricate the piston 48.
