Abstract
1,237,211. Two-stroke engines; rotary pumps. R. G. PARKER. Aug. 12, 1968 [May 12, 1967], No. 22080/67. Headings F1B and F1F. In a two-stroke I.C. engine, the connecting rod is shaped to divide the crank-case over a part or whole of the cycle into suction and compression compartments and provides a pumping action. As the crank-shaft rotates in the direction shown chamber 3 expands drawing in air or mixture through the intake opening until bottom dead centre when the connecting rod moves to leave only a working clearance at 7. The resultant increased clearance at 6 opens the under piston volume to the chamber 3. Meanwhile the gases filling the chamber 4, which had been in communication with the under piston volume before bottom dead centre, are compressed as the volume of chamber 4 reduces and are forced from the chamber 4 through the transfer duct to the cylinder.
