Abstract

1,136,052. Drying gas in compressed gas systems. HANKISON CORP. April 5, 1966 [April 5, 1965; March 22,1966], No. 15191/66. Heading F1N. [Also in Divisions B1, F4 and G3] A compressed gas system comprises a compressor 51 supplying a receiver 28' through a drying tower 15' filled with desiccant material and provided with a dump valve 57 which when opened allows gas in the receiver 28' to flow back into the drying tower 15' through a restricted passage 26' and thus regenerate the desiccant before escaping to atmosphere. The dump valve 57 is opened when the receiver pressure is sufficient to operate a pressure switch 58. Operation of the switch 58 simultaneously opens the dump valve and stops the electric motor 50 driving the compressor 51. In an alternative arrangement (see Division G3), the dump valve and the compressor suction valve are opened by a predetermined pressure occurring in the receiver. The compressor output may be supplied to a refrigerated drying unit (78) Fig. 8 (not shown) before entering the desiccant tower. For details of the construction of the drying tower (see Division B1).
