Abstract

1,015,119. Compressing gases. H. C. JONES. June 24, 1964 [Aug. 9, 1963], No. 31585/63. Heading F1N. An apparatus for compressing air by utilizing the wave surge of the sea comprises a tunnel 1 encased in concrete or masonary 3 and having an opening 2 facing out to sea, whereby waves entering the tunnel force air therein past a non-return valve, situated at the tunnel apex 5, into a reservoir, not shown. The backwash of the wave surge causes an automatic inlet valve at the apex 5 to open, allowing atmospheric air to enter the tunnel. The apparatus may also comprise several tunnels communicating with a single reservoir.
