Abstract

1331971 Reciprocating compressors BORGWARNER CORP 25 Nov 1970 [ 30 Dec 1969] 56128/70 Heading F1N A motor driven reciprocating piston compressor comprises cylinders 20-23 each supplied with suction gas from a seperate chamber 84-87, the chambers 84, 86 receiving their suction gas from the chambers 87, 85 through respective control valves 95, 94 closable to unload the cylinders 22, 20. Each valve 94, 95 comprises a cupshaped piston urged by a spring 100 to a position in which ports 96, 98 and their associated chambers are in communication. To close the valves 94, 95, a solenoid valve 106 is operated to direct gas from a line 104 at delivery pressure to lines 110, 111 connected to valve operating chambers 102. Thus the pistons move to disconnect their ports 96, 98 and isolate the chambers 84, 86. From the chambers 84 - 87 the gas passes through passages 46 into cylinder heads (not shown) containing suction and delivery valves. After compression the gas passes into pipes connected to the heads and enters an annular muffler chamber. (For Figures see next page)
