Abstract
1,008,838. Reciprocating pumps, motors and compressors. D. LE. R. YARGER. July 2, 1964, No. 27419/64. Heading F1A and FIN. In a fluid pump or motor of the type in which the working pistons act as distributing valves, an inlet passage is connected to one of the cylinder valve ports in each cylinder of a first group of cylinder and an exhaust passage is connected to one of the cylinder valve ports of a second group of cylinders and each working chamber has a first passage connecting it to another cylinder valve port of the first group and a second passage connecting it to another cylinder valve port of the second group. The invention is stated to be applicable to in-line, axial or radial cylinder pump or motors. In the radial cylinder pump shown in Fig. 1 piston 15 controls the connection between external port 62 and the adjacent working chambers; likewise the piston 16. The piston 17 controls the connection between the other external port 64 and the adjacent working chambers; likewise the piston 18. The passages, shown diagrammatically in Fig. 1 are cast in the body portion 25 (Figs. 3, 4 not shown). Leakage into the chamber 28 may pass through one of the valves 84, 85 to the low pressure side. In a modification (Fig. 5 not shown) the cylinders are provided with liners and inclined in the direction of the axis of the drive shaft whereby the pistons are caused to rotate in the bore to reduce wear. The capacity of the pump or motor may be increased as shown in Fig. 2 by adding cylinder blocks 25<SP>1</SP> the cylinder bores of which are in direct communication with the first cylinder bores and hence controlled by the valving arrangement of the first block.
