Abstract

1,246,256. Reciprocating compressors. HOERBIGER VENTILWERKE A.G. Feb.10, 1970 [Feb,10, 1969], No.6446/70. Heading F1N. Also in Division F2] A valve assembly for controlling the gas supply to and discharge from the cylinder 2 of a reciprocating piston compressor, comprises a central plate 7 provided with inlet and outlet ports 14, 15, and valve reeds 20, 21 having free ends cooperating with said ports and fixed ends clamped between the plate 7 and respective apertured discs 8, 9 of compressible material. The assemply is sandwiched between apertured carrier plates 10, 11 secured together by screws 12, 13. As shown the assembly is situated between the cylinder 2 and its head 4 but alternatively the head may be dispensed with, the outer carrier plate 10 then being thickened and provided with inlet and outlet nipples (30, 31) Fig.3 (not shown). To facilitate assembly the reeds may be pinned, welded or brazed to the plate 7. Recesses (36, 37) may be provided in the plate 2 at locations between the ends of the reeds, Figs.4-6 (not shown), the recesses being in communication with chambers on the sides remote from the plate thereby to reduce the pressure forces acting on the reeds.
