Abstract

605,054. Compressing air. DEHN, F. B. (Fluor Corporation, Ltd.). June 14, 1945, No. 15157. [Class 8 (i)] [Also in Group XXVII] Apparatus for damping pulsations in a gas line especially applicable to the connections of a reciprocating pump, comprises two pulsation absorption chambers 23, 24 connected in series by one or more restrictive passages 25, the chambers preferably having the same size; the passage may be valve controlled. The sizes of the chambers and passages for a given velocity and frequency of pulsation of the gas are calculated by a formula. The inlet or outlet of the pump is connected to a branch 11 of a shell 19 forming the two chambers 23, 24. The pipes forming the passages have inlets and outlets 29, 30 and a depending nozzle 33 through which deposited liquid is sucked up. The pipes are welded to cross-stays 26. A baffle 34 over the exhaust passage 21 causes the outgoing gas to entrain liquid deposited in the bottom of the chamber.
