[Also in Group XIII] Heating apparatus comprises an oscillating column type combustion chamber which discharges into a silencer chamber, the combustion chamber itself being disposed inside the silencer chamber. The invention ensures that the wall of the combustion chamber is heat insulated and that soot deposit is thereby prevented. Heat is transmitted from the silencer to a surrounding water or air jacket. In Fig. 1 the combustion chamber comprises a cavity 8 and a coiled pulsation tube 9 disposed within a silencer chamber 11 into which the tube 9 discharges. The silencer chamber is surrounded by a water jacket 12 to which water is supplied at 13 and from which it discharges at 14, the water serving as a heat carrier. The combustion gases from the tube 9 discharge through a coiled tube 15 disposed in the water jacket. The combustion equipment is secured to a cover 17 which is releasably connected to the silencer chamber. The combustion equipment comprises also a carburetter 3, an air inlet non- return valve 4, a mixing tube 1 and a hand pump 10 for starting. In a second embodiment, the coiled pulsation tube is replaced by a straight tube surrounded by a larger tube which is closed at its end adjacent the open end of the inner tube. The combustion gas duct increases in cross-sectional area in the direction of flow. In Fig. 3, the resonator tube 9a is surrounded by concentric tubes 9b, 9c, the cross-sectional area of the duct increasing in steps towards the outlet. The silencer chamber is in two parts 11a, 11b connected by a coiled resonant pipe 24. The gases from the chamber 11b pass through a pipe 15a to a secondary silencer chamber 22 and then pass to exhaust through pipe 15b. The whole device is disposed within an air jacket 20.
