Abstract

[Also in Group XXIX] A device of the kind in which spray liquid is introduced at 4 into the pulsating exhaust gas flow fed through an exhaust tube 3 surrounded by a jacket tube 11, 12, 13 which does not extend beyond the end of the tube 3, is characterized in that at least one auxiliary exhaust tube 24 extends in the direction of the exhaust tube outlet and opens into the space between the exhaust and jacket tubes. The tubes 3 and 24 extend from the opposite ends of a combustion chamber 1 which is fed via a throat 6 with fuel from a carburetter 7 and air through a non-return valve 8. An outer jacket 16, 17, 18 with a closed perforated end 27 is provided. In operation, the parts 1, 2 and 3 form a resonator, and when the fuel is ignited by an ignition device 10 pulsations of gas in the tube 3 entrain the liquid fed through an annular slot 5 and spray it. Gas from the auxiliary exhaust tube draws cooling air into the outer jacket 16-18, and this air flows forwardly through the inner jacket space 15. Additional cooling air is drawn into the device through apertures 26, 28 and 29. The stream of gas charged with liquid may serve for the production of flames.
