Abstract

666,473. Windshield cleaners. PRODUCTIVE INVENTIONS, Inc. June 11, 1947 [Dec. 13, 1945], No. 15422/47. Class 138 (i). In a windscreen wiper for flat or curved surfaces, a pressure distributing bridge member is connected at its extremities, with provision for relative movement, to a holder which is flexible throughout its length only in a plane perpendicular to the surface to be wiped and carries a flexible wiping element. As shown, a flexible holder 6 consisting of two flexible metal strips 15 each engaging a groove 14 located on either side of a wiping element 3 as disclosed in Specification 666,548, has the strips retained in spaced relationship by fastening brackets 25, indentations in the brackets engaging corresponding recesses in the strips to prevent relative movement therebetween. The brackets include integral portions 18, 19 which are pivotally attached to a substantially-rigid bridge member 28, a lost motion connection 24 being provided on the portion 19. The bridge member is pivotally mounted on an operating arm 1 by a connector 30. In a modification the lost motion connection 24 may be omitted, one of the fastening brackets being slidably connected to the holder. An additional intermediate locking bracket may be used with long wiping assemblies, with or without attachment to the bridge member. Specification 347,198 also is referred to.
