666,548. Windscreen cleaners. PRODUCTIVE INVENTIONS, Inc. June 11, 1947 [Dec. 13, 1946], No. 20782/50. Divided out of 666,473. Class 138 (i). A flexible windscreen cleaner 'for flat or curved surfaces has a holder 6 comprising a pair of flexible metal strips 15 which engage corresponding grooves 14 located on either side of a wiper element 3, so that the element may only flex in a plane perpendicular to the surface to be wiped, and fastening brackets 18, 19 which retain the wiper element and the strips in assembled relationship. The holder is attached to a pressure distributing bridge as disclosed in Specification 666,473. The grooves 14 in the wiper element are formed in a head portion 40, a wiping portion 7 being flexibly connected thereto by an integral neck portion 41. A plurality of wiping edges are provided on the wiping portion in the manner disclosed in Specification 347,198, so that flexing of the wiping portion causes more than one wiping edge to engage the windscreen if the resistance to movement of the wiper body is large. Indentations formed in the brackets engage corresponding recesses in the strips (not shown) and prevent relative movement between the parts. In a modification the flexible strips are press-fitted into narrow grooves 14, or alternatively the grooves may be V- shaped.
