Abstract

664,482. Ironing-machines. LISTER BROS., Ltd., and CARMALT, E. B. Sept. 29, 1950 [Sept. 30, 1949], No. 25195/49. Class 138 (ii). Means for smoothing out damp textile sheets and the like before passing through the rollers of an ironing machine comprises a pair of boards 1, 2, Fig. 2, or rollers 8, 9, Fig. 3, having oppositely disposed convex edges or surfaces. In Fig. 2 the upper board 1 is curved at its rear edge and the lower board 2 at its forward edge, the sheet 3 being fed from a trough 7, between the boards 1, 2 and over feed bands 4 to the machine 6. In Fig. 3 the boards are replaced by a pair of crown-shaped rollers 8, 9 which may be non-rotatable, or driven so that the linear velocity of the rollers at the point of largest diameter would be less than the linear speed of the feed bands 4.
