Abstract

735,435. Ironing. REEVE, T. D. Oct. 5, 1953 [July 7, 1952], No. 17035/52. Class 138 (2). Apparatus for feeding articles such as sheets 3 to a flat-work ironing machine 9 comprises a main conveyer formed by endless chains 1 guided for movement in parallel vertical planes and a number of bars 2 on which the articles can be hung, supported by and extending between the chains, and beaters 6 arranged beneath the upper run of the conveyer so as to strike the articles hanging from the bars and reduce the creasing thereof. The articles 3 may be fed by the conveyer on to a further conveyer 5, the leading edge of the article being gripped between the conveyer 5 and a padded roller 10 urged downwardly by springs. or gravity. The conveyer 5 delivers the articles 3 to the feed bands 8 of the machine 9, a further roller (not shown) preferably being provided in contact with the feed bands 8. The speed of this roller may be faster than that of the roller 10 to assist in removing creases, and this is furthered by one or more rotatable brushes 11 positioned over the feed bands 8.
