[Class 100(i)] In a sheet feeding apparatus in which the sheets are forwarded in a continuous stream of overlapping sheets, the sheets are initially advanced in rough closelyspaced overlapping relationship from an upper feed board 1 to a lower feed board 2 by means of feed bands 3 passing over drums 4, 5, 6 and bands 8 passing over drums 9, 10, curved guides 7 directing the sheets to the bands 8 which may be driven by the same means as the bands 3, or may be continuously driven independently thereof. The front sheets are registered by a fixed front lay 113 and the top sheet is fed transversely by suction devices 12 which are moved vertically into and out of contact with the foremost sheet and which advance the sheets transversely in overlapping relation over depressible stops 13, Fig. 3, to rollers 16, 17 which feed the stream over a table 27 to a machine. The feed of sheets from the table 1 is controlled by a feeler 18 similar to that shown in Fig. 6 which operates a switch 20 which de-energises a magnet controlling a clutch 22, Fig. 2 not shown, which operates the driving of the drum 4 and bands 8. The drive is disconnected if the sheets accumulate too thickly on the table 2. The sheets are fed by hand to the bands 3, or may be fed in batches from a hopper with a cutaway opening through which a wad of sheets may pass to the bands 3 arranged below the opening. The bands 3 may be driven independently of the bands 8.
