Abstract

1287904 Feeding sheets WINKLER & DUNNEBIER MASCHINENFABRIK UND EISENGIESSEREI KG 12 Nov 1969 [16 Nov 1968] 55329/69 Heading B8R Sheets, e.g. envelope blanks, are fed one by one from the bottom of a pile S by mechanism comprising a central sucker 10 having a suction nozzle 17 which is of concave form at its sheetengaging face, a movable tongue 16 which penetrates the gap formed between the bottom sheet and the next sheet when suction in the sucker 10 draws a part of the bottom sheet into the concave nozzle 21, and one or more suckers 11 disposed on each side of the central sucker 10, control means being provided whereby suction is supplied to the suckers 11 after it has been applied to the central sucker. The suckers 10, 11 are fixed to an oscillating shaft 9, and suction is applied to the sucker 10 through one control valve device and to the suckers 11 through a second control valve device 25, the latter device also controlling the momentary supply of air to a fixed blower 30 which directs a stream of air into the gap formed by the sucker 10 between the two bottom sheets. With the suckers 10, 11 in a starting position, Fig. 1, contacting the bottom sheet, and after suction has been applied to the central nozzle, suction is applied to the suckers 11, and then the shaft 9 moves all the suckers downwardly to bend the front edge of the bottom sheet B about the rounded edge 1<SP>1</SP> of the pile table 1. Pile support members 13 are now rocked so that shoes 26 thereon move beneath the remainder of the pile 5 above the separated sheet B. The tips 27 of the shoes 26 have slots through which air streams directed above the sheet B issue just before the suckers 10, 11 reach their lowest position, at which position the suction is cut off. The bent-down edge of the sheet B is now engaged by edges 47A on rotating discs 6 co-operating with rubber rollers 8 to feed the sheet to a machine. Suction openings 48 in the discs hold the sheet against the discs.
